Trekking to the Pinnacle of a Water Tower

As the dog and its human continue Trekking into a Water Tower and Trekking through a Water Tower

With the dog always in the lead

Its human desiring a steed

They finish lumbering through the old-growth whitebark

Hoping to reach the top of the water tower before dark

Gradually the forest gives way to alpine

Marmots and pikas appear

Scenery simply devine

Across a vast landscape with air so exceptionally clear

A red-tailed hawk soars over head

Elk calves lie in the grasses and forbs

Low-lying vegetation that provides them a day bed

Chewing their cud so nutrients absorb

Elk calves rest in a nursery as the cow that drew the short straw tends to them while the rest of the mommas graze nearby.

The top now in sight

Threatening storm clouds passing over head

Getting there will be such a delight

Especially before those clouds decide they have excess moisture to shed

Reaching the pinnacle the dog and it’s human find a place to sit

With the human remembering what a friend and colleague once said

“Climbing mountains is never easy, but it’s always worth it”

And they sit there for spell without an ounce of dread

Life is good at the top of a Wyoming water tower.
